FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How much do you charge for your weddings?

A: I have a variety of customizable wedding collections that I’d love to share with you!  Please get in touch with me and let me know what you’re looking for HERE.

Q: When did you start photographing?

A: I bought my first camera in January 2010 as a hobby and a means to allow myself to be more creative.  Word got out that I was a photographer and people started calling me and asking for professional photos.  The leads naturally directed my path towards entrepreneurship.  I started Julia Green Photography in May 2012 after being asked to do several weddings. You can read a short memoir about how it all began HERE. Today, my photography business serves as a means to provide people with stunning photographs that tell a unique story about each couple and person that I work with!

Q: Where do you get inspiration?

A: Everywhere and everyone! Inspiration is my motivation. People, art, music, quotes, movies, magazines, books, nature, fashion, color, lines and shapes, I marvel at it all. I love opening the door and letting creativity flow through!

Q: What kind of camera do you use?

A: I have always used Canon products and been consistently impressed with their quality. I have a few cameras but mainly just use the Canon 5D Mark iii and love it.  At every photo shoot my camera bag holds a 50mm fixed lens, 85mm fixed lens and a 24-70mm zoom. I have other lenses I bring if needed but those are my favorites to use.

Q: How far in advance should we book you for our wedding?

A: Most people book their wedding photography anywhere from 6 months to a year before their wedding. The summer months fill up the quickest so the earlier you book your photographer the better. I do not officially book the date until I have a contract and deposit. You can send me an email by clicking on the contact tab if you want to check my availability.

Q: How would you describe your photography style?

A: I take an illustrative photography approach where I blend both traditional and photojournalistic styles with an emphasis on composition, background and lighting. My clients always receive the classic and timeless photographs, which are useful for display and sharing with others. However, included in all wedding collections are reality-based photographs taken throughout the day where I capture events as they unfold to tell your unique wedding story.

Q: How would you describe your working style?

A: During the wedding day I blend into the background and shoot what unfolds naturally.  Although, during the designated photo times (family, bride and groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen etc.) I create a more visible presence by taking charge and choreographing shots.

Q: Do you shoot in digital or film?

A: I shoot in digital because it permits unlimited shots during the day allowing more opportunity to shoot spontaneous moments and the photos can be viewed immediately rather than waiting for the film processing.  However, the photographs can be edited to look filmy if desired. Both formats can yield excellent photos!

Q: How do you edit your photos?

A: Digital photography doesn’t end at the click of the shutter. There is a level of post-production editing that must go into each digital negative to give it the final professional-quality product. Every collection includes minor adjustments such as color correction, exposure correction, sharpening, contrast, clarity, noise reduction and black and white photographs. I strive to enhance the natural beauty already in the photograph!  I use Photoshop and Lightroom for post-production editing. Lightroom allows me to make the same corrections you would use to edit a film negative in the darkroom.

Q: Do you have any tips for starting a successful photography business?

A: Certainly! There are a few must-haves that I discussed in a blog post that you can read HERE.
