Connor + Ashley

Some people make your laugh a little louder, your smile a little brighter and your life a little better.  These people often become your best friends and are the ones who you dream with and do life with.

Connor and Ashley embody all the characteristics of best friends and more.  They secretly give each other nicknames, always know what the other is thinking, comfortable in silence, annoy each other and thoroughly enjoy it, share every little detail about every little thing, can’t wait to be able to tell each other stuff, always laughing, forgiving each other no matter what, never get bored with each other’s blabber and can have a whole conversation with just one look.

Recently Connor and Ashley became more than best friends; they became engaged and decided to commit to a lifelong journey together.  I can’t imagine either of them without the other and I am so excited for their recent engagement! Here is the engagement story written by Ashley!

“After volunteering for a month at Washington Family Ranch during the summer, I (Ashley) was headed back to camp for the weekend for a Summer Staff Reunion. On Saturday evening, everyone was having dinner in the dining hall. A friend, Craig, pulled me from the dinner table telling me we were going to run some errands around camp and hang out. However, we only had a little bit of time to catch up because he had a meeting. We first went to the Orchard Inn to check on the heat, which ended up being perfectly fine. Next, we headed over to Creekside (the middle school camp next door) because someone had left a walkie talkie at the top of the slides. We chatted the whole way up the stairs. Once at the top, Craig couldn’t find the walkie talkie so he went to turn the lights on so he could “find the walkie talkie.” After the area was lit up, I heard a “Hello Minion!” Connor was waiting for me at the very top of the slide tower with Christmas lights, hanging paper snowflakes, bean bags, and a wonderufl heater! He pulled out a wooden box in the shape of a cross. The cross was separated into five compartments. Connor then explained to me what it all meant and this is what our marriage will be based off of. The first section of the box I opened represented family. The second, prayer. The third, service. The fourth, adventure. Finally, the center box represented, Christ, which is also where the ring was waiting to be revealed. He showed me the engraving inside the band, which says ‘Abide in my love’ from John 15 and then told me the small diamond in the ring belonged to my grandmother. We then embraced of course, while I shed a few years. A few meaning a lot! Next on the list was to write our initials in the premises to create a place we could come back to and remember such a wonderful night. We then trotted down the stairs, me with my cross box and Connor with his GoPro (which caught everything on video). In the midst of conversation while walking down the stairs, a song called You Are Mine by Ryan Long came on. Ryan Long just happened to be the camp musician from when Connor and I went to camp as high schoolers. He was playing his concert the night I met Christ at camp. Applauding Connor for his creativity, we finally reached the bottom of the stairs where a group of friends was waiting to congratulate us. We spent the rest of the night hanging with some of our closest friends who were able to be there!” -Ashley
